Need a Reason to Help Kids? How about $100,000? Or a New Harley V-Rod?

By Anonymous

SALT LAKE CITY, UT. September 23, 2004--- Professional golfers do it all the time. Now amateur golfers have the opportunity to win $100,000 if they can hit a hole in one from 165 yards. Whether someone hits the hole in one or not, the person who hits closest to the pin will win a 2004 Harley-Davidson V-Rod! Best of all, proceeds benefit Operation Kids and its mission to help the Whole Child.

The promotion runs through Friday, Oct. 15. The shootout takes place on Monday, Oct. 18, at Hidden Valley Country Club in Sandy, Utah.

The campaign is presented by America First Credit Union, and sponsored by XanGo, Siegfried & Jensen, Golden Corral, Intermountain Harley-Davidson, KUTV-2, 101.5 The Eagle, Sports Radio 1280 The Zone, and X-96.

“There are two great things about this promotion,” says Rick Larsen, president of Operation Kids. “First of all, the money raised will benefit Operation Kids’ mission to help the ‘Whole Child.’ And whether or not anyone hits the hole in one, someone is definitely going to win a screaming new Harley-Davidson V-Rod!”

To enter the contest, simply visit any America First Credit Union location, participating Golden Corral location or Intermountain Harley-Davidson dealer and donate $10 to Operation Kids. In return you’ll get a paper OK Kid™ and an entry form. After the contest ends on Friday, Oct. 15, 50 names will be drawn out at random. Those 50 people will have the chance to shoot for the $100,000 or the Harley V-Rod. A hole in one wins the $100,000. Closest to the pin wins the Harley.

The shootout takes place on Monday, Oct. 18 at Hidden Valley Country Club. The distance from the tee box to the pin is 165 yards for men. Women shoot from a shorter distance. See official rules for an alternative form of entry.

About Operation Kids: Operation Kids is a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to serve the needs of the Whole Child… their education, safety, environment, health, welfare and well being… by supporting a diverse group of effective and deserving children’s charities with funds and other resources. Operation Kids reviews the operational efficiency and program effectiveness of noteworthy charities. Charities that serve children and which meet its stringent proprietary criteria are branded with the OK mark, and are deemed eligible to receive funds and other resources from Operation Kids’ fundraising efforts.

Campaign Details: People may enter as often as they like. Fifty names will be drawn at random from all entries to participate in the shootout on Monday, October 18 at Hidden Valley Country Club. Golf hole is 165 yards to the pin for men, less for women. Additional entries increase the chances of your name being drawn out. Contest ends Friday, Oct. 15 and is open only to Utah resident 18 and older. Professional golfers are not eligible to participate in the shootout. See official rules for details and alternative form of entry. Official rules and a complete list of entry points are available at the Operation Kids website; http://www.operationkids.org/holeinone.html.

Harley-Davidson Honored by the Secretary of Defense in Washington, DC

By Anonymous

September 23, 2004 -- The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), in conjunction with the Secretary of Defense, honored Harley-Davidson as a 2004 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipient on September 21, 2004 in Washington, DC.

Harley-Davidson’s spirit of support goes far beyond paperwork and benefits. An “All American” manufacturer based in Milwaukee, Harley-Davidson has shown tremendous support of its Guard and Reserve employees for more than half a century. It is estimated that about 14 percent of Harley-Davidson employees are members of the Guard and Reserve. Upon mobilization, the employee receives frequent “care packages”, pay differential, continued health and life insurance, and 401(k) benefits. The corporate values mirror those its Guard and Reserve members fight for: freedom, patriotism and independence.

“Everyone at Harley-Davidson is deeply honored to receive a 2004 ESGR award and we thank those who nominated and selected us,” said Harley-Davidson Chief Financial Officer and Army veteran Jim Ziemer. “But the real honor belongs to those who put their personal well-being on the line in service to our country.”

The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, a Waterford crystal eagle, was introduced in 1996 to publicly recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices made by America’s employers of Guardsmen and Reservists.

“Harley-Davidson’s exceptional support of their Reserve and National Guard employees during mobilization for the war against terrorism has set a standard for all employers to follow”, said David Janes, ESGR National Chairman. “Harley-Davidson’s advocacy of extending continuing benefits, making up pay differentials, and ensuring employees are returned to their jobs in a timely manner is truly a role model for corporate America. I am proud to have participated in the selection of Harley-Davidson for this prestigious award”, added Janes.

Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the only major U.S.-based motorcycle manufacturer, produces heavyweight motorcycles and a complete line of motorcycle parts, accessories and general merchandise. For more information, visit Harley-Davidson's web site at www.harley-davidson.com.

The unique mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain active employer support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the Guard and Reserve as defined by demonstrated employer commitment to employee military service.

ESGR provides free education, consultation, and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees. More information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs and volunteer opportunities is available at www.esgr.org, or by calling 800-336-4590.

WATCH AND LEARN: New DVD Makes Maintaining your Harley a joyride

By Anonymous

San Diego, CA August 6, 2004 -- San Diego-based Fix My Hog Inc. has launched an educational do-it-yourself motorcycle maintenance DVD that will help Harley-Davidson enthusiasts become proficient in routine upkeep. Designed to decrease the time and expense associated with owning a motorcycle, the DVD gives Softail riders the skills necessary to perform the basic functions recommended by Harley-Davidson to keep its motorcycles running in top condition. Priced at $39.95, the DVD will pay for itself with just one oil change.

Shot in a motorcycle repair shop with professional mechanics, the 70-minute, 12-chapter DVD covers everything from performing a safety check to maintaining the charging system to replacing spark plugs, changing fluids, and more.

Fix My Hog’s format makes it easy to follow; each procedure is fully explained and demonstrated step by step in its own chapter by trained, experienced mechanics. Also included are tips, tricks of the trade and a commentary about the changes in style and mechanical design that the motorcycles have undergone over the years, from the Evolution motor to the new, 2004 Softail Twin Cam.

Fix My Hog boasts clear, digital-quality viewing and crisp sound. Unlike VHS, the long-lasting DVD format allows the viewer to advance chapter by chapter or scene by scene. Users can even pause and view a clear, static image in detail—impossible to do with videotape.

Company founder Dennis Santopietro, an avid motorcyclist and Harley-Davidson owner, created the DVD to fill a niche. “Maintenance is necessary; I wanted to make it enjoyable and easy as well. A well-maintained motorcycle runs better, looks better and is safer. In addition, regular upkeep helps a motorcycle retain its value and stay on the road longer—and, let’s face it, that’s the ultimate goal. Even if you can’t tell a drain plug from a spark plug, you will be able to handle your motorcycle’s basic maintenance after watching this DVD.”

Harley-Davidson owner Eric Pirone commented, “Fix My Hog’s DVD is the best instructional tool I’ve seen. It’s straightforward, educational and entertaining. Once you learn the techniques you’ll get so much satisfaction from working on your motorcycle, and you can save hundreds of dollars or more by doing the work yourself. Even if you never put a wrench to gleaming chrome you’ll understand the inner workings of the bike and be more knowledgeable when you bring it in for service. Fix My Hog’s DVD on H-D Softail maintenance is well worth adding to your library.”

Santopietro plans to expand his DVD offerings to other models of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
